Veeam Software, a global leader in Data Resilience solutions, has appointed Niraj Tolia as Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Tolia joins Veeam after the acquisition of Alcion, an AI-driven data management startup focused on security, which he co-founded with Vaibhav Kamra. Tolia, along with the Alcion team, brings a strong technical background and a deep alignment with Veeam’s mission and values.
In his new role, Tolia will drive the product strategy and engineering efforts for the Veeam Data Cloud (VDC), strengthening Veeam’s suite of data resilience services. He will collaborate closely with Anton Gostev, Veeam’s Chief Product Officer (CPO), to ensure continued innovation in Veeam’s offerings. The Alcion team will be integrated into Veeam as part of this transition.
Veeam CEO Anand Eswaran commented, “Niraj is a rare talent who not only grasps the future direction of the market but also possesses the vision and skills to translate that into reality for our clients. His past success with Kasten, which became the leading solution for Kubernetes data resilience following its acquisition by Veeam in 2020, highlights his capabilities. With the rapid expansion of the Veeam Data Cloud, the fastest-growing product in our history, we are set to redefine the data resilience market once more.”
Tolia is set to bring his extensive expertise at Veeam, having previously developed an industry-leading solution with Kasten. As co-founders of both Kasten and Alcion, Tolia and Kamra bring a blend of expertise in data management and cloud-native technologies, along with a strong understanding of Veeam’s strategic direction and culture, which will be instrumental in advancing innovation. “Everything begins with the customer,” Tolia noted. “In today’s digital landscape, safeguarding data and ensuring its resilience against various threats is more critical than ever. By integrating Alcion’s AI and security features with Veeam Data Cloud’s capabilities, we have an excellent opportunity to enhance our offerings and strengthen Veeam’s leadership in Data Resilience.”
Before founding Alcion, Tolia co-founded Kasten and served as General Manager for Veeam Kasten, focused on Kubernetes data resilience. He also led product development at Maginatics, a startup acquired by Dell EMC’s Data Protection Group. Tolia holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
