Tata Electronics has appointed Bobby Mitra as its Chief Information Officer (CIO) and President of AI and Digital Transformation. In this leadership role, Mitra will spearhead enterprise-wide initiatives in Artificial Intelligence and digital transformation, focusing on Electronic Manufacturing Services, Semiconductor Assembly and Testing, Semiconductor Foundry Operations, and Design Services businesses.
Mitra and his team will be instrumental in advancing Tata Electronics’ commitment to AI-led manufacturing excellence, particularly in establishing India’s first semiconductor Fab in Dholera, Gujarat and the first indigenous semiconductor assembly and test facility in Jagiroad, Assam.
Mitra previously led global smart manufacturing, industrial systems, and personal electronics systems at Texas Instruments, where he also served as President and Managing Director of its India operations. Most recently, he was Managing Director at Deloitte Consulting, driving advancements in manufacturing and supply chain.
Mitra holds a B.Tech. in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering, a PhD in Computer Science from IIT Kharagpur, and an executive MBA from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a Fellow of the IEEE and serves as the Global Chair of SEMI Smart Manufacturing.
Tata Electronics is investing ₹91,000 crore to build a chip fabrication unit in Dholera, Gujarat, and ₹27,000 crore in a greenfield assembly and testing facility in Jagiroad, Assam. Tokyo Electron Limited (TEL) has agreed to supply equipment and train Tata Electronics’ workforce for India’s first semiconductor fab, being developed in partnership with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation. TEL will also support ongoing R&D and process improvements, strengthening India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem through this collaboration.
